Flood Early Warning Systems

Floods continue to devastate communities worldwide, with increasing frequency and intensity. Effective Flood Early Warning Systems (FEWS) are critical for reducing the impact of natural disasters and advancing climate resilience.

But how can we make these systems more inclusive, sustainable, and fit-for-purpose?

Join our interactive session at Stockholm World Water Week (hashtag#SWWW25) on Wednesday 27 August (16:00-17:30, Session ID:12102), which brings together a wide range of perspectives to explore the future of FEWS - from technical innovation and sustainability to water governance and social inclusion. Contributions come from global and regional actors, including the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Water Resources Commission Ghana (WRC), HKV lijn in water, 510 - The Netherlands Red Cross' data & digital team, Deltares and TAHMO_World.

Eva Schreuder (Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken) and moderator Liesbeth Wilschut (Blue Deal) will kick off the session with a thought-provoking discussion, diving into the role of Disaster Risk Reduction (hashtag#DRR) in climate action, the shifting donor landscape, and why inclusive, well-governed early warning systems are more critical than ever.

As a participant, in the room or online, you will shape the conversation; through live polling, interactive prompts, and a Q&A. Together, we will explore what’s working, where the gaps are, and what urgent steps we can take - together - to build stronger, smarter flood early warning systems across borders.
